Lindsey Bramham
DANCERS EDGE TEACHER AND UNCG MFA CANDIDATE
LINDSEY BRAMHAM HOWIE PRESENTS DANCE CONCERT

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s School of Music, Theatre, and Dance will present Lindsey Bramham Howie’s MFA Thesis concert entitled Under Control, February 24th and 25th at 8:00pm in the UNCG Dance Theater. The UNCG Dance Theater is located in the Health and Human Performance Building at the corner of Walker Avenue and Kenilworth streets, and parking is available in the Walker Parking Deck. General admission tickets are $12; student and senior citizen tickets are $9; and $6 for UNCG faculty and students. Tickets will be available in the lobby of the Dance Department beginning one hour before each performance, or you can contact the University Box Office at 336.334.4849. You may also order tickets HERE.

Under Control features dancers Megen Burgess, Paige DeRosa, Ruth Gibbs, Abby Mathias, and Ashley Meeks. The concert consists of five different pieces with the ideas of control, manipulation, and power at its heart, and will also feature work by filmmaker Mandi Hart. The choreography can be described as dynamic and vigorous, balanced with Howie’s intrinsic sense of gentility. “Desperately Trying” features a soloist restlessly searching and grasping hold to some semblance of control. “Bound to You” is a duet which explores themes of authority, dominance, and dependence. The trio “Follow Me” is inspired by Howie’s relationship with her two sisters. “Sheltered” is a quartet created out of personal reflections generated in response to her father’s battle with leukemia. The performance closes with “Under Her Spell,” a lighthearted and sensual piece featuring all five dancers.

Originally from Mechanicsville, Va., Howie earned a BFA in Performance with a concentration in jazz dance from East Carolina University in 2004. She performed and studied in Chicago until 2006, then moved to Winston Salem, and became a member of Sidelong Dance Company under the direction of Karla Coghill. Howie has been a guest jazz dance teacher at numerous universities in North and South Carolina. She currently teaches dance appreciation, beginning, intermediate, and advanced jazz courses at UNCG, along with classes at two local dance studios.

DANCERS EDGE INVITED TO COMPETE AT FDC WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

decisions group
Dancers Edge Routine Decisions, Decisions.       Choreography by Justin Mann.

Dancers Edge was among an elite group of studios from across the country and Canada to be
selected for the World Dance Championship Series August 5-6, 2011 in Dallas, TX.

Thousands of studios from every corner of the United States and Canada competed at dance competitions sanctioned by the Federation of Dance Competitions this season to vie for a spot at the World Dance Championships. Routines had to place in the top overalls in at least two FDC competitions during the regional season to qualify, which narrowed the list to around 1,000 routines that were eligible. The routines were then ranked according to score, and the executive committee for the Federation of Dance Competitions voted to invite the TOP FIVE in each age division to go
head to head at the World Dance Championship finals in August. Dancers Edge routine Decisions, Decisions was
selected as one of those top five routines in the Senior Age division (ages 15-19) in the Southeast Region!

“This is a huge honor that we truly did not expect,” said Christy Hambright-Carter, the studio’s co-owner. “We only competed at two FDC competitions, and really did not even expect to qualify, much less win a spot as a top studio. We are so proud of the dancers and Justin Mann – the choreographer for this piece.”

The studio will hold several fundraisers to help the dancers reach their goal
of being able to compete at the World Dance Championships finals.
