Dancers Edge Hip Hop instructor, Kentrell Newton, and his crew - Swagger Crew - will appear on the popular MTV show "America's Best Dance Crew" as one of the Season 5 competitors. The show airs Thursday nights at 10:00pm on MTV ... Watch, and vote for SWAGGER CREW!

NEW FACES AT DANCERS EDGE
DE would like to welcome Eli and Pam - formerly of ABDC's Fresh Crew of New Jersey. These ladies will be "popping" in to teach classes at the Edge over the course of the next few months. And, speaking of America's Best Dance Crew … don't forget to watch the new Season 5 kickoff episode Thursday, January 28th at 10:00pm on MTV!

ASHLEY ROGERS LIVES ON THE EDGE in LA!
Dancers Edge alum - Ashley Rogers - is already forging her own path in Los Angeles, where she moved in late Summer 2009. She has been signed with the renowned Bloc Agency in LA, has filmed for the hit new show "Make It Or Break It", was selected out of 70+ dancers to become one of 11 members of Mash Up Contemporary Dance Company, and is scheduled to appear in a music video under the direction of renowned Janet Jackson choreographer Gil Duldulao in February, 2010. She has even run into numerous DE special guest artists including Jojo, Dennis Caspary, and Eddie Garcia. Congratulations Ashley! We are proud of you!

DANCERS EDGE - HOME OF THE WINSTON-SALEM DASH'S MINI DANCE TEAM
Dancers Edge was recently selected to represent the new Winston-Salem Dash baseball team, as the official studio of the Dash's Mini Dance Team. Dancers Edge will hold auditions in February 2010 for 10 spots on this exciting new team! Keep checking our website regularly for details and information!

COMING TO DANCERS EDGE 2009-2010...

EDDIE GARCIA - January 5-7, 2010

Eddie's successful career spans the wide gambit of television, film, music videos, commercials, theatre and concerts throughout the world. He is an accomplished actor, dancer, choreographer and artistic director. He began career in show business at the tender age of three, appearing in numerous theatrical productions and winning countless awards. By age 15, Eddie was the Teen Dance Champion on "Star Search" winning eight consecutive shows. Eddie also starred in NBC's "Guys Next Door", a youth oriented live action series, which showcased not only his dancing, but also his singing, acting and choreography skills. Eddie has performed with many of today's most celebrated stars. By age 16, he found himself dancing for Janet Jackson. Less than a year later he was on the first of several world tours with none other than Michael Jackson. He has had the pleasure of working with Ja Rule, Sheryl Crow, Jane's Addiction, Paula Abdul, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Brandy and the list goes on and on. Eddie has also enjoyed working with Jennifer Lopez (J Lo). He has appeared and co-choreographed several of her videos, The Today Show, the MTV Video Awards, a Subaru commercial and an NBC Television Concert special. Other credits include both choreography and performing in the fun-filled film "Bringin' Down the House" starring Steve Martin and Queen Latifah and Disney's "The Suite Life with Zach and Cody". Eddie has also been very busy updating the choreography for the Luxor's show "Fantasy" in Las Vegas. Eddie worked with Perry Ferrell and Satellite Party for Lollapalooza 2005. He also appeared in the feature film version of the musical "RENT". Dancers Edge welcomes Eddie!

KOLBIE BOWLING - January 2, 2010

Kolbie is part of the winning team of instructors and choreographers from Strictly Rhythm, the FDC's Overall Top Dance Studio in the NATION for 2009! Kolbie has won numerous dance titles and scholarships during her dancing career, and her distinctive style and creativity have been recognized at many competitions - regionally and nationally. Kolbie began teaching at the age of 16 and immediately proved herself as a talented instructor and choreographer. She currently instructs the Jazz program for Strictly Rhythm Performing Company but provides competition choreography in jazz, lyrical, tap, hip hop, and contemporary. Her students have continuously placed in high score and received dance titles at regional and world competitions. Kolbie has also choreographed numerous routines that have won acclaim for innovation and creative choreography. She is a 2006 graduate of George Mason University with a degree in English and a minor in Dance. In addition, Kolbie teaches master classes at the West Potomac Dance Academy and has choreographed for competitive dance studios all over the East Coast. We welcome Kolbie as she works on competitive choreography for Dancers Edge!

XTREME DANCE FORCE - November 9-11, 2009

You may recognize JC and Alvin from their appearance on America's Best Dance Crew with Xtreme Dance Force. Known for the show-stealing hip hop routines and innovative choreography, Xtreme Dance Force has long been known as the premier hip hop organization in the country. Xtreme Dance Force has opened for such major artists as Soulja Boy, Chingy, Ciara, Ludacris, Tyrese, and Bow Wow and have appeared on MTV's popular show "Made". JC is the Co-Director of Xtreme Dance Force, and a driving force behind all aspects of it's performances, choreography, and innovative hip hop instruction. Alvin has been recognized as one of the youngest most talented hip hop choreographers and instructors in the country. Their amazing choreography has won accolades and awards all of the country. We would like to thank JC and Alvin for their amazing work on two hip hop pieces for Dancers Edge!

ED PHELAN - Nov-Dec 2009-Jan 2010
Ed is one of the most award winning choreographers in the Southeast! His unique style and enthusiasm make his routines some of the most recognized in the industry. Dancers Edge is happy to announce that Ed will have several Jazz pieces in our 2009-2010 Competition line-up, and will be in the house sporatically to teach classes as a guest artist.

Dancers Edge Performed at Panthers vs. Cowboys Halftime Show Dec. 22nd
Local dance studio, Dancers Edge, was recently honored as the only dance studio ever to be asked to be the exclusive halftime show for a Carolina Panthers NFL football game. The studio performed the holiday-themed halftime show at the Carolina Panthers vs. Dallas Cowboys game December 22nd with the Carolina Panthers TopCat cheerleaders.

Nearly forty dancers from Dancers Edge practiced at the Bank of America Stadium in the weeks leading up to the event, and got the once in a lifetime opportunity to perform for the sold out crowd of more 72,000.

CHRIS DAUGHTRY VISITS THE EDGE

Dancers Edge would like to thank Chris Daughtry and his beautiful family for taking time to visit with Dancers Edge students and staff in Kernersville on October 16th. Chris was kind enough to sign some autographs, take photos, and he even signed our graffiti wall!

Dancers Edge Honored With Corporate Sponsorship

Dancers Edge was recently honored with sponsorship from several professional entities. This sponsorship will be used to directly benefit the competition team dancers at the studio's Winston-Salem and Kernersville locations for the 2008 competition season.

B&M Hardwood Floors will purchase team warm ups for the Dancers Edge competition teams, and Edwards, Falls & Renegar, PLLC and K-Ham Plumbing Contractors, Inc. will help with the cost of dance team duffle bags and other materials for every competition dancer.

"We are so excited that these businesses have stepped up to the plate and are showing our dancers their support," said Christy Hambright-Carter of Dancers Edge. "We have been affiliated with all of these businesses for many years, and they have consistently shown their support and integrity. It is a pleasure to see that local business owners see the value of dance in the lives of these kids."

Edwards, Falls & Renegar and K-Ham Plumbing have worked with Dancers Edge for five years, providing sponsorship so that area Big Brothers/Big Sisters children could have the opportunity to take dance. After B&M Hardwood Floors approached Hambright-Carter in August, 2007 about the possibility of sponsoring the teams, Edwards, Falls & Renegar and K-Ham Plumbing were quick to follow their lead.

"This sponsorship really shows our kids that there are others in the community who believe in them and all the hard work they put into dance," said Hambright-Carter. "We are so thankful to all of the businesses who have given so generously to these kids. I know their efforts will go a long way in showing the Dancers Edge students and parents how much support they have from the community."

Dancers Edge competition teams have won numerous local, state, regional, and national titles…and finished the 2007 competition season with 119 Overall Top Ten finishes, including numerous current National Championship Titles. They will begin their 2008 competition season in the Spring.
